Sara has a very good friend in Chicago who was instrumental in motivating her to run her first marathon. They met through a Facebook group and she says it just clicked. When her friend’s husband started training for his first full marathon a little while later he found himself tired and struggling more than usual. It turned out to be Leukemia. As soon as Sara heard the diagnosis she knew she wanted to run the Chicago Marathon and Team TLT4C was the perfect opportunity.
Sara’s running story started in December 2010. She had recently quit smoking and at 220+ pounds decided something had to change. She started walking to prepare for the DC 3 day walk for the cure in August 2011. She tracked her diet and exercise and in November 2011 started Couch to 5k and was hooked. She kept adding distance until she ran her first race in April 2012, the Ocean City Half Marathon. Her first marathon was the Palm Beaches Marathon in December 2012, and she finally ran her first 5k in September!
Sara lives in South Florida, about 20 miles from Ft. Lauderdale, with her husband Chris, their three children, and their dog, Emma. The moved to Florida two years ago from Maryland, where Sara was born and raised. She is a self employed business owner, mostly in real-estate. She loves sailing, reading, hiking, and scuba diving. Someday she wants to spend a year on the sailboat with her family, seeing the world. She is working on getting enough sea service hours to get her USCG Captain’s license and loves sailing because life is so simple that way, just water and wind.
