For almost any other race I would say the day before race day is a REST DAY! But I had to break my own rule a little bit this year and did quite a bit of running around on Saturday (more on this later, but this was far from an “A” race for me, so I wasn’t as paranoid as I normally am). I did a quick shake out run down to the MCM start/finish area so I could see the set up. It all looked pretty much the same as last year, which was a relief, and it was nice to spend a few minutes taking everything in on my own.
After our shake out we made pancakes (because...carbs) and met up with a few more friends flying into town for the race. So much Florida in town for MCM weekend and it was great! Even a few who decided to run at the last minute!
After that we had to start packing up and getting ready for our team dinner. The team dinner was especially important to me because there were so many runners I hadn’t met yet! Team TLT4C hailed from all over the country in 2014 and I was super excited to finally have everyone in the same room. Plus, for a major marathon race morning is crazy and post race is even more hectic, so the night before really is the best time to celebrate the weekend.
The Key Bridge Marriott hosted us for the 2nd year in a row and just like last year they were awesome about making sure everything was set up right on time just the way we’d asked for. Seeing everyone in person was just as great as I thought it would be and several of our TLT4C alums got to join us for dinner as well!
I mentioned that this wasn’t an “A” race for me, so I got to try everything at dinner, including dessert! Post dinner we took our friend Rick out in Clarendon so he could see our new neighborhood. Even the bartenders were confused that we were still out, but since none of us were chasing a PR (or even a fast race) we figured a few drinks and a later than normal bedtime was okay.
Once we got home I took a few minutes to make sure everything was set for the morning, but then it was off to bed!
